GLOBAL HEALTH ALLIANCE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN
Join the Movement for Global Health Equity

ABOUT US
Global Health Alliance is a grassroots student organization network that aims to strengthen the movement for global health equity by empowering students and communities to work together to improve the health of the impoverished around the world. This network exists as a continuously-growing, collaborative group of independent student organizations at Amherst University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tufts University, University of Chicago, University of Michigan, University of Texas-Austin, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Our chapter was established as GlobeMed at the University of Michigan in 2007 and re-branded as Global Health Alliance at the University of Michigan in 2020. While our name and logo have changed, we maintain our mission, partnerships, and passion for global health equity. We work with our partner communities in Detroit, MI and Tutor, Cambodia to offer every individual the opportunity to thrive, not just survive. Using a sustainable partnership model, we combat issues commonly found in non-profits such as voluntourism and white saviors.
OUR MODEL
Here at Global Health Alliance at the University of Michigan, we believe that a sustainable partnership model is the best way to maximize impact and minimize the sometimes harmful iatrogenic effects of non-profit work. We are sustainable by maintaining long-term partnerships (5+ years), working towards partner organizations reaching self-sufficiency and sustainability of their own. This means that our partner communities have a local organization with community knowledge to meet their needs year-round, ultimately combating issues commonly found in non-profits such as voluntourism and white saviors. We also believe in true partnership: a collaboration between two organizations and two communities in which both parties are equally heard, acknowledged, and involved in decision-making processes.
By purposefully working with these shared ideals in mind, we empower our partners to improve the health of their own communities.
